One thing we should all be asking for the next time the Miami Dolphins refresh their uniforms

When the Miami Dolphins hit ‘refresh’ on their uniforms again, there’s one thing we should all be asking for.

The Miami Dolphins will look mighty different this season. That’s thanks to a dramatic overhaul of the roster that will have a whole bunch of new players in place for the season ahead.

But Miami also introduced a new look in 2025 thanks to the Nike Rivalries uniform. The Dolphins finally invoked a dark uniform into their kits — which brought all kinds of opinions. The Dolphins have many great looks, none better than their retro throwback kits. But whenever the time comes for Miami to hit reset on their base look, there’s something we should be asking for even more than just a basic transition to the throwbacks becoming the full-time kit.

Don’t get me wrong. I would love to see the throwback uniforms make a full-time return. A nod to the legacy of this franchise would be a good decision, in my opinion. But I don’t need it. There’s plenty of reasons to embrace the future and a new spin on the traditional look.

But can we, please, get the helmet back on the dolphin?

The Dolphins’ current logo is more of a modern, minimalistic spin on the team mark. But Miami played nearly 50 years of football with a dolphin wearing a helmet on the helmet. I’m partial to the iterations worn from 1966-1996, before the cartoon dolphin made his first appearance in 1997. But with the informed speculation from one of football media’s best in the uniform game about Miami possibly working towards a reset, I’ve spent a lot of the past week of our summer downtime mulling over uniforms. And I’d kindly ask you to join me in the hopes for a return to the legacy look of the logo when the time comes.
