3 players the Cleveland Browns could end up trading before the NFL regular season begins

We’re only ending June right now, but the 2026 NFL season will be here before we know it. When the Cleveland Browns make some roster decisions in late August, don’t be surprised if they look to trade any of these three players.

The Cleveland Browns are off until the end of July when things will ramp up for training camp, and preseason football will soon follow. We have a much different-looking Browns team this season compared to a year ago.

It’ll be the first training camp for Todd Monken as a head coach. All eyes will be on the starting quarterback competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. Cleveland will begin camp with 90 players with many of them battling for roster spots.

As the Browns make decisions to get down to 53 players after the preseason, there are multiple routes they’ll go. Trading players away is one route the Browns could go and multiple players make sense as possibilities.

WR Cedric Tillman

Last season Tillman entered the season with a chance to be a starter, but it won’t be the case this season. Denzel Boston is Cleveland’s big target at the X that they drafted in the second round to make tough catches down the field. In the final season of his rookie deal, Tillman will be a rotational wide receiver in what’s likely his last season in Cleveland.

I expect the Browns will keep him around as a fourth or fifth wide receiver, but if there’s an opportunity to trade him, they could roll the dice. Tillman’s inability to stay healthy has been his biggest hurdle and when he’s on the field he’s been inconsistent. A new home could be best for both sides and a trade is possible.

QB Dillon Gabriel

Cleveland has four quarterbacks battling for three spots after taking former Arkansas QB Taylen Green in the sixth round back in April’s draft. You can pencil Deshaun Watson and Green in as the two locks in the quarterback room. Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are battling for one spot with Gabriel most likely to be the odd man out, and Sanders competing for the starting job against Watson tells it.

Gabriel made six starts last year and failed to push the offense down the field at all and was a game manager at his best. If the Browns can get anything for a player who was clearly a reach in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, I think they’d jump on it.

OT Dawand Jones

Cleveland has its two starting offensive tackles with rookie Spencer Fano and veteran Tytus Howard. There was a time when Jones had a chance to be a starting offensive tackle for Cleveland, but he was never able to lock down the job due to multiple serious injuries. Jones only played in three games in 2025 and his best role in 2026 would be taking the swing tackle job.

The former Ohio State Buckeye is in the final year of his rookie deal and if the Browns could get a draft pick for him, they should take a look at trading him. Cleveland has KT Leveston with tackle experience, as well as rookie Austin Barber. I don’t think the Browns trade Jones, but it’s certainly more than possible.
