Former Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Terrion Arnold is no longer a member of the Detroit Lions. Detroit released the 2024 first-round pick after Arnold posted more than $1 million in bail Monday following allegations of armed robbery and kidnapping.

The news will hit different depending on who you ask. Some will find it surprising. Others will find it shocking. Most will find it sad. Arnold was one of the more promising corners to come out of Alabama in recent years, and he had some strong moments during his time with the Lions. There looked to be a bright future ahead of him in Detroit.

That future is now gone.

Terrion Arnold 2025 stats

  • 31 tackles.
  • 1 interception.
  • 8 passes defended.

What happens next for Terrion Arnold?

Arnold is facing serious legal matters, and his NFL career hangs in the balance. The Lions clearly decided they had seen enough, cutting ties with a player they invested significant draft capital in just two years ago.

The truth is, this is a lose-lose situation for everyone involved. Detroit loses a young corner it was developing. Arnold loses what appeared to be a promising NFL home. And Alabama loses another data point in its pipeline of first-round defensive backs who were supposed to thrive at the next level.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Arnold could have participated in training camp with the Lions after being granted bail. That door is closed in Detroit, but it raises the question of whether another team would be willing to take on the risk.

The bottom line

Right now, the situation does not look good for Arnold and his NFL future. He went from first-round pick to free agent under the worst possible circumstances. Whether another organization extends an opportunity remains to be seen, but the legal process will need to play out before any team seriously considers bringing him aboard.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation as it develops.
