Michael Irvin walked into a Philadelphia bar during All-Star Weekend and got exactly what he deserved

Nobody should be surprised considering the rivalry between Eagles and Cowboys, and how much Philly fans go about this.

Michael Irvin got booed at McGillin’s during MLB All-Star Weekend in Philadelphia, and the immediate overreaction from the national media was predictable. Oh, here go the Philly fans again. They’re terrible people. They boo everybody. The pearl-clutching was almost as entertaining as the booing itself.

Can we not have fun anymore? Where did the passion go? Where are the rivalries? Eagles and Cowboys is one of the longest standing rivalries in all of professional sports. We hate each other. That’s the whole point. If an Eagles legend like Ron Jaworski or Randall Cunningham walked into a Dallas bar with a camera crew during a major event, I would expect them to be booed too. Now, maybe it wouldn’t happen because Cowboys fans don’t carry the same energy, but the principle holds. It’s all in the fun of the game.

Irvin brought this on himself

I don’t care that Michael Irvin is an analyst and a celebrity now. He came to Philadelphia during All-Star Weekend with a full camera crew, a bunch of people following him, recording every second of it. He walked into one of the most popular bars in the city and expected what, exactly? A warm reception? A round of applause?

And he didn’t stop there. Irvin went up to the Rocky Steps and started celebrating, quote unquote “taking over” the Rocky Steps. Well, guess what? Everybody who has tried that stunt has not ended up well. Think about the 49ers fans a couple years ago throwing jerseys and doing all that nonsense on the Rocky Steps. Think about the Chiefs. The Vikings. Every single fan base that has tried to claim those steps has been humbled. So maybe take notes, Michael.

The city is buzzing

Philadelphia is on fire right now. All-Star Weekend has the city absolutely electric, and the passion is unmatched. I’ve been going to a lot of the events, hitting up All-Star Village, catching the Home Run Derby. It’s been a very long time since Philly hosted something like this, and the energy is incredible.

So of course we’re going to poke fun at a Cowboys legend who walks into our house with cameras rolling. That’s what makes this city great. The overreaction to Irvin getting booed at McGillin’s is insane. This is Philadelphia. We wear our passion on our sleeves, we ride for our guys, and we let opposing legends know exactly where they stand when they cross into our territory.

We already know the Cowboys are eternally cursed. Irvin going up to the Rocky Steps and trying to claim them as his own may have just made it worse.
