‘There’s nothing that’s hidden from anybody’ — One rookie’s first impression says plenty about the Miami Dolphins’ new direction
One of the Miami Dolphins’ bright young rookies sheds light on Jeff Hafley’s team culture in 2026.
The Miami Dolphins sound like they’re getting back to basics under new head coach Jeff Hafley. The team is focused on the trenches. They’re focused on building through the draft. And they’re focused on the culture.
Former college head coach Jeff Hafley is looking to build a program here, much like the pre-transfer portal builds of programs in college football were built. And if he’s successful, the Miami Dolphins sound like they’re going to avoid one of the pain points of the last version of the franchise. Rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez has dished on that team culture in a new look behind the scenes at his first summer in South Florida.

“We’re team-first. I think that’s the biggest thing Coach Hafley’s preaching to us is we want to be effort-based. We want to execute the scheme. But I think the biggest thing is you have to have trust in your teammates. So everybody’s kind of held accountable and everybody gets to kind of see what’s good and what’s bad and what the expectation is and what the standards are. Everything’s spoken. There’s nothing that is…hidden from anybody and everybody has that opportunity.”

Jeff Hafley obviously wasn’t here in Miami to see the warts of the last regime. But it certainly felt at times that the trust in one another wasn’t where it needed to be. Those challenges can come with so many veteran players from other teams. That was, of course, a staple of Miami’s prior build the last two seasons. Whether that focus is intentional or not, it’s reassuring to know how early it’s being preached to this young group in Miami. Now, hopefully, the rest of the build can come together and the Dolphins can be better for it long-term.
