The Miami Dolphins reportedly ‘reached out’ to Stefon Diggs—but the clues say you shouldn’t be surprised

The Miami Dolphins‘ wide receiver room is among the most maligned rooms in football. In our fantasy football culture, poor production and questionable household name value is a tough mix.
Miami, though, has at least shown some clues of interest in upgrading. The latest sign comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who hinted that the Miami Dolphins were among the teams to reach out to new Washington Commanders WR Stefon Diggs. The comment made some waves — but it shouldn’t. At least not if you’re paying attention to the clues.

He had some conversations with some teams but I think it was going to be Washington all along for Stefon Diggs. It just made too much sense…Keenan Allen is still out there. His name has been mentioned a few times. We’ll see if anyone out there steps up and signs him.”

Let’s start here. You should not be surprised. It’s been reported for months that the team had some level of interest in Jauan Jennings before he landed in Minnesota. Jennings, ultimately, was too costly for a cap-strapped team like the Dolphins to stay competitive with.
This franchise made a top-15 investment in an offensive lineman to help evaluate quarterback Malik Willis. The hypothetical signing of a veteran wide receiver would simply be more of the same. That said, Diggs, given his off-field track record, probably wouldn’t have been a great fit for this culture build in Miami in 2026.
And notice how Schefter said the Dolphins “reached out”. That’s fairly passive language in regards to the conversation at hand. So I view it no differently than the Jauan Jennings experience. Miami wanted to see if they could land a piece to help assess Malik Willis in 2026. The cost and the fit didn’t align. And in the end, Diggs is a Commander.
