Carson Beck gave Miami Hurricanes fans a painful reminder of the national championship game during strong start for Cardinals
Miami fans got an unwelcome flashback during the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday night.
Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck got the nod to start the first NFL preseason game of the 2026-27 season on Thursday night in the Hall of Fame Game. And Beck certainly delivered for the Arizona Cardinals during his time on the field.
Beck played through the first drive of the third quarter and led three scoring drives. He was decisive and accurate, finishing 15 of 19 passing for 188 yards and a touchdown. If not for a late incompletion, he would have had 35 more yards on his final pass, which was laid in nicely between two defenders but punched out at the last second.
Beck did have a nice connection earlier in the game in a similar situation where he laid the ball into wide receiver Jalen Brooks past the corner and ahead of the safety.
And that completion had some on social media flashing back to the final throw of the 2025 college football season.
Carson Beck’s completion to Jalen Brooks had some Miami fans flashing back to his interception in national championship game
In the national championship game between Miami and Indiana, the Hurricanes had the ball down 27-21 with less than a minute left in Indiana territory. Beck forced the ball down the field to Keelan Marion, who had a step on his defender.
However, the ball was a bit underthrown, and Jamari Sharpe intercepted it to seal the win and the title. Indiana had safety help coming over, so it would have taken a perfect throw in stride to the outside shoulder to have a chance at a completion.
And yes, that throw drew plenty of reactions on Twitter/X.
It’s certainly early, but Beck looked good enough in his debut to keep the conversation going about his prospects as Jacoby Brissett’s primary backup going into the season. And if things go south for the Cardinals this fall, as they likely will in a brutal NFC West, then perhaps we’ll get a shot to see what Beck can do before Arizona is forced to decide on whether to take a quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft.
As far as the conversation about the national title game, well, that’s likely not going anywhere until the Hurricanes are finally able to raise up national championship trophy number six. We’ll find out if they can make that happen this season.
