Teams with winning cultures in the NFL are often considered better equipped to handle adding players with off-field concerns. The Seattle Seahawks, as the defending Super Bowl champions, certainly qualify as a “winning” landscape.

Which is why it should come as no surprise to hear they’re among the teams entertaining one of the NFL’s most controversial free agents on a visit. Former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold, who is facing several serious charges related to an off-field incident this offseason, was in Seattle on Sunday — per Jordan Schultz.

Arnold is a former first-round draft choice who the Lions picked 24th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. His first two seasons in the NFL have not gone according to plan. And that may be the understatement of the century. Arnold’s rookie season was up and down. He then landed on injured reserve in December of 2025, and ultimately played in just eight games in his second season.

Then came the real hardship. Arnold was released after just two seasons in Detroit. The decision by the team came on the heels of charges stemming from an alleged incident in February of 2026: Arnold, who has an arraignment hearing scheduled for this week in Tampa, faces a total of eight total felonies. A total of four charges of kidnapping, plus four charges of armed robbery hang in the balance.

A to Z Sports’ Mike Payton summarized the incident upon Arnold’s release in Detroit:

(The charges) stem from the robbery at Terrion Arnold’s Airbnb earlier this year, where prosecutors allege a group of Arnold’s associates carried out a retaliatory kidnapping, robbery, and assault against people they believed were responsible. That investigation has now escalated with Arnold’s arrest, marking a dramatic turn in a case that had previously resulted in charges against several other individuals who pleaded guilty this week while Arnold publicly maintained he had done nothing wrong. Those individuals have agreed to testify in court on the matter.

Arnold had repeatedly denied any involvement through his attorney, and the Lions had also expressed confidence that he wasn’t implicated based on the information available to them at the time. His arrest changes the legal landscape significantly, though it’s important to remember that an arrest is an allegation—not a conviction. The case will now move into the court system, where prosecutors will have to prove the charges they’ve brought.”

Seattle is, ultimately, doing their due diligence for now. And, because they are a franchise with a strong, winning foundation? The public perception is that they’re generally more capable of handling the matter if it progresses from here.

But let’s keep perspective. It is just a free agent visit…so far. On the heels of Seattle losing Riq Woolen in free agency this offseason, there is a football argument to be made for Arnold to be added. That is, of course, assuming his name is cleared in the legal proceedings related to this incident. That’s a matter of “wait and see”. It’s hard to imagine Seattle, or any team for that matter, signing Arnold with this case still open.

But in the meantime, Seattle does what winning teams do: sniff around talent with questions — and see if the stars align for a fit. That will likely be up to the courts.
