The Washington Commanders host the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 of the preseason, almost a year after the two squads faced off in Madrid.
The Commanders fell short in that game, 16-13, but they didn’t have star quarterback Jayden Daniels on the field and have undergone major roster turnover over, since. While it’s a preseason game, it’s still a new dawn for Washington. And, for the Dolphins, as well.
It remains to be seen who plays and at what capacity, but it’s fair to expect a good chunk of the roster will see some action. Dan Quinn said before Wednesday’s joint practice that updates will be provided on Friday.

- The Commanders and Dolphins have met 17 times in the regular season and Miami holds an 11-6 overall record against the Burgundy and Gold. They’ve met just five times since 2011 and the Commanders are 1-4, with their lone win coming back in 2019.
- Dan Quinn and Jeff Hafley squared off last year when the Commanders lost to the Packers, 27-18, on September 11. Of course, Hafley wasn’t the head coach at the time, but he did a good job of corralling Daniels and the Commanders offense.
- This is the fourth-straight preseason opener at home for the Commanders. They are 2-1 in the previous three contests.
