New Chaz Coleman development has Vols fans remembering a sneaky report from right after his medical disqualification at Tennessee
Penn State transfer EDGE Chaz Coleman was medically disqualified at Tennessee earlier this summer.
Chaz Coleman, the Penn State transfer EDGE who landed at Tennessee in January before getting medically disqualified this summer, is apparently working out again.
Adam Sparks of the Knoxville News Sentinel pointed out on Wednesday that Coleman posted some videos of himself working out at an undisclosed location.
For now, no one knows what this means for Coleman’s football future.
But it’s worth noting that The Athletic’s Manny Navarro suggested in late June, right after Coleman was medically disqualified, that the former Penn State EDGE could rejoin the Vols down the road.
“Coleman is still technically on scholarship at Tennessee, and there’s a chance he could eventually rejoin the Volunteers,” wrote Navarro. “That doesn’t mean he’s getting paid in the meantime. Most, if not all, college athletes do not collect on revenue-sharing deals when they’re away from the team.”
Now, I don’t think there’s any chance you’ll see Coleman rejoin Tennessee football in 2026. He didn’t work out with the team during the summer, and he missed most of spring practice. I also can’t see the Vols opening the door this soon to a reunion.
But maybe if Coleman gets to a spot in 2027 where he feels like he’s in love with football again then we could see a reunion. That’s obviously just speculation — no one knows what the future holds for Coleman — but he’s a gifted athlete with rare physical traits who doesn’t turn 20 until December. He could still have a bright NFL future ahead of him if he can get the personal issues squared away.
