Dan Campbell comments on former Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold’s signing with the Seahawks
Dan Campbell addressed Terrion Arnold signing with the Seattle Seahawks for the first time Sunday. He revealed other NFL teams contacted Detroit about Arnold before the signing — and made his feelings about his former first-round pick very clear. “It really is unfortunate.”
It’s been one of those summers for the Detroit Lions. One where you hope there’s just one controversial thing, and that’s it. Of course, this was the biggest one we’ve maybe ever seen.
It started back in February when there were reports that Terrion Arnold had allegedly been involved in a kidnapping and armed robbery case. That all wound up with the Lions flat-out releasing their first-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft in late June.
Shortly after that, Arnold’s attorneys claimed that the cornerback had a lot of interest in him from other NFL teams, and that wound up being true. He worked out for the Giants, Seahawks, Texans, and Saints, and then during the Lions’ first preseason game of the year, it was announced that he had signed a one-year deal with Seattle.
On Sunday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked about Arnold going to Seattle, and he said he was not surprised that Arnold found a new team and that he has no ill will towards Terrion whatsoever and wished him the best. “Terrion’s a good dude, and the whole thing’s unfortunate. It really is, but it is what it is.”
Campbell also said that the Seahawks and other teams did reach out to the Lions to talk to them about Arnold, but Campbell was not the person they talked to.
Of course, this is the one year the Lions don’t even play the Seahawks after doing it four seasons in a row, so they won’t play against Arnold unless it’s in the playoffs. That is, if Arnold even plays this season. He still has to go through a trial, and not long ago it was reported that the league was monitoring the situation. He could still be put on the commissioner’s exempt list or suspended. All reasons why the Lions felt it was right to just go ahead and move on.
