Minnesota Vikings make roster move to address a position of dire need similar to Jalen Redmond
Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Giants opened up a lot of eyes to a big issue on the Minnesota Vikings’ roster.
One of the biggest positional needs for the Minnesota Vikings is at edge rusher. After Dallas Turner and Andrew Van Ginkel, they don’t have a lot of options behind them. Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins struggled on Saturday against the New York Giants to do much of anything, and it became glaring how much of a need the position was.
On Monday, the Vikings did make an addition to the room, but it’s not quite the exciting addition you’d expect.
Minnesota Vikings sign EDGE Kenny Dyson
The Vikings signed edge rusher Kenny Dyson and waived edge rusher Arden Walker, who was signed as a UDFA
Dyson was signed by the Carolina Panthers after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Bryant University. He spent time with the Panthers’ practice squad, getting into two games that year.
Last season, Dyson was with the Houston Gamblers of the UFL. He was a capable player there, netting 27 tackles and 4.5 sacks across 10 games. Across a 17-game season, that would be 7.5 sacks and 46 tackles. That’s a very capable set of numbers for a rotational edge rusher, but he’s not coming here to be the EDGE3; Dyson will be competing for a roster spot.
Walker was signed by the Vikings as a UDFA after the 2026 NFL Draft out of Colorado and had been at the end of the depth chart. He played 17 snaps on the day with two pressures.
The Vikings will still have an edge rusher issue, but this feels very similar to the Jalen Redmond signing by bringing in a talented player from the UFL. Will it work? Who knows, but it’s worth a shot.
