The Washington Commanders beat the Miami Dolphins last week and now they travel to take on the Detroit Lions in each team’s second preseason matchup.

Dan Quinn said Wednesday that it remains to be seen who all plays in the game, but there’s still a lot to monitor even if starters don’t suit up.

3 fun facts heading into the Commanders-Lions preseason matchup

  • The Commanders and Lions have met 49 times in the regular season and Washington holds a massive 32-17 advantage over Detroit. Things have swayed in the Lions’ favor since 2010, however, as they’ve won seven of nine matchups, including last year’s dominant 44-22 win.
  • Obviously, Commanders offensive coordinator David Blough was with the Lions from 2019-2021. Over that time, he went 0-5 as a starter and, overall, he completed 54.3% of his passes for 1,033 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
  • This is just the second matchup between Commanders head coach Dan Quinn and Lions head coach Dan Campbell. They are 1-1 against each other, with Quinn holding the tiebreaker in the form of the 2025 NFC Divisional win.
  • Jayden Daniels did not play in the first two games of the 2025 preseason, so it’ll be interesting to see if he gets involved this week. Especially when considering the Commanders are trotting out a new offense under Blough.
