The Las Vegas Raiders are making changes to Allegiant Stadium, and the statement may seem odd for a building that’s only a few years old. The Raiders have only been in Las Vegas for a handful of seasons, but they’re already planning renovations to their home venue. Honestly, it’s brilliant.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders are eyeing improvements to Allegiant Stadium, which will also be the home of Super Bowl 63. On the agenda later today for the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, a $158 million improvement to the stadium’s north entry, which will create a new front door for the stadium, including a pedestrian deck, public plaza, event deck, and other transportation improvements.

The Raiders are seeking $75 million from the LVSA (Las Vegas Stadium Authority), which will come from an existing taxpayer fund allocated to Allegiant Stadium-related improvements, and will privately fund the remainder.

The renderings match the Raiders’ identity

The drawings and renderings of this project look amazing. They look like exactly what Raiders fans need, particularly the fans who actually attend games, because things can get wild in Las Vegas. The new front door to the stadium fits the vision you have when you picture the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium, not at Oakland Coliseum. This version of the Raiders is more glitz and glamour, and that’s fine. They like nice things, they have nice things, and that attracts top-tier players.

The new front door fits the stadium’s theme perfectly. Everyone says the building looks like a spaceship, and it kind of does. This north entry area leans into that aesthetic. The renderings of the plaza, pedestrian decks, event deck, and transportation improvements all look like natural extensions of what Allegiant Stadium already represents.

Transportation improvements could be the biggest win

The transportation piece might matter more than anything else. Las Vegas is hard to get around. You can’t walk everywhere just because everything sits along one strip. You’ll be exhausted, especially in the heat, and it’s not always safe to hoof it. Improved transportation to the stadium is something fans have been asking for since the Raiders moved to town.

Now the Raiders just have to worry about getting their own fan base into this stadium and not opposing teams’ fan bases, because it feels like that happens every single year. It always seems like there are more fans from the visiting team than there are home fans. Maybe investments like this will help shift that dynamic. You don’t know for sure, but it’s reasonable to think a better gameday experience draws more local support.

Mark Davis has a bigger plan

The Raiders are surely excited to see how this project comes together, and it should help them in more ways than one. Owner Mark Davis has a bright plan for this franchise’s future. On-the-field improvement matters, but the things Las Vegas is doing off the field and for the facility are important, too.

These renderings are beautiful. If the Las Vegas Stadium Authority approves the plan, the north entry renovation could transform the gameday experience at Allegiant Stadium well before Super Bowl 63 arrives.
