Las Vegas Raiders are now the latest victim of what’s been happening way too often lately in the preseason and in training camp
The NFL is a violent sport, and now there’s another player who’s been injured in the preseason: defensive back Chigozie Anusiem.
The Las Vegas Raiders are now the latest victim of what has hit everyone this preseason, whether in a preseason game or at training camp. Preseason injuries have recently swept through the NFL like an epidemic, and now the Raiders have a major one in Chigozie Anusiem.
During the Raiders’ second preseason game against the Houston Texans, they saw a player go down. It appeared to be a major injury. Anusiem went down on the field with an apparent knee injury and was carted off the field after a brief break in the game. Players huddled around him and showed their support. Shortly after, the Raiders officially ruled him out with a knee injury.
In their first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, there really weren’t any major injuries like this one. Sure, players got banged up. Some have not played or practiced much since, like Jackson Powers-Johnson and Dont’e Thornton. However, those guys were not carted off the field.
In fact, those guys are still walking and doing things at practice, but off to the side in street clothes. And in this situation, it feels like we could be talking about an injury that has Anusiem out for some time. However, we won’t know the diagnosis until the team’s staff and doctors take a look.
Raiders DB Chigozie Anusiem was and could still be fighting for a 53-man roster spot
No one is saying he would have/won’t or will make it. But this injury is especially tough because if it even ends his preseason, he doesn’t get a fair shot to fight for a spot on the 53-man roster. And he had a shot. The Raiders have a cornerback room that has a lot of open spots. Now, I didn’t think he’d make it. I had him as the first one out, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have a chance. He’s played four NFL games in two seasons, and he has a legit shot at some playing time in 2026.
