‘It’s a little bit personal’ – Deshaun Watson fires off at Browns fans following Saturday’s poor performance in preseason loss to Bills

Deshaun Watson didn’t have a good performance in the Browns second preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. His comments after the game toward fans don’t make things any better.

The Cleveland Browns dropped a lopsided 31-7 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, and the fallout after the game makes things a lot more interesting.

Deshaun Watson was booed off the field multiple times by fans in attendance after a pair of three-and-outs and an interception in the second half.

His stat line told the story: 5-of-12 passing for 36 yards and one interception, with two carries for 13 yards on the ground. It was his first time playing in front of Cleveland fans since the 2024 season, and the reception was far from welcoming. It was a poor performance for Watson, to put it plainly.

Deshaun Watson’s postgame comments aren’t what fans will want to hear

Watson didn’t take kindly to the boos and addressed the situation after the game.

“I think the whole world knows it has nothing to do about the performance,” Watson said. “It’s a little bit personal in that, so I think that’s it’s a disrespectful thing. So yeah, I mean, I’m gonna keep whatever I feel with me and my family internally on how I feel about that.”

That same fan base they cheered when I got hurt. So does what does that have to do with anything about performance when a person get hurt.”

The loss itself was an ugly one. It was a rainy, gray day at the stadium, and the weather fit the Browns’ offensive performance. Shedeur Sanders played well early, but the offense fell apart after that. Watson entered the game and played the entire third quarter against Buffalo’s backups. The thought was that the lighter competition might allow Watson to show some positive play, but that never materialized. The interception came on a sailed pass, and the three-and-outs piled up.

Deshaun Watson’s tenure in Cleveland remains a sore spot

The Browns fan base is a passionate one, and the last four years with Watson have been difficult. Watson is battling for Cleveland’s starting quarterback job in his 5th year of a contract that guaranteed him over $230 million. That was never what this partnership was thought to be when the Browns brought him in.

Watson’s postgame comments aren’t likely to sit well with a fan base already frustrated by the on-field results. With Shedeur Sanders in the building and the regular season approaching, the pressure on Watson to perform is only going to increase.

“I don’t regret anything in my life,” Watson said of coming to Cleveland. “You know, I think the Lord put me through situations for a reason, so I don’t, I don’t regret anything at all. But you know, I had different thoughts on how it was going to be, but you know, it is what it is. You know, sometimes you know the tables turn, and I’m patient enough because I’m a child of God to you know wait for that time to change.”
