There’s a lot of misinformation in college football right now.

And LSU Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt was apparently the victim of some of that misinformation earlier this offseason.

Leavitt, who transferred from Arizona State to LSU in January, was one of the most high-profile players in the portal.

Several programs, including Tennessee and Miami, were heavily interested in Leavitt, but he ultimately ended up committing to LSU after a wild week that included trips to all three schools.

The narrative that emerged was that LSU offered Leavitt $6 million to sign.

That narrative was backed up by an SEC general manager who told On3 in February that he heard Leavitt was getting $6 million from LSU.

New report says LSU isn’t paying Sam Leavitt $6 million

A new report from On3’s Pete Nakos that dropped on Tuesday clarifies that Leavitt actually isn’t getting $6 million from LSU.

Instead, Nakos reported that Leavitt is getting $4.5 million from LSU.

“The most sought-after transfer quarterback in January’s portal window, Leavitt visited Kentucky, Miami, LSU and Tennessee. But the chance to play for Lane Kiffin in Baton Rouge was too much to turn down,” wrote Nakos. “Sources told On3 that Leavitt will be making roughly $4.5 million this season with the Tigers.”

According to Nakos’ report, three quarterbacks in college are earning more than Leavitt this season: Darian Mensah at Miami, Dante Moore at Oregon, and Trinidad Chambliss at Ole Miss.

Josh Hoover at Indiana is also earning $4.5 million this season.
