Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans may have just stumbled upon a new weapon that looks beautifully familiar
The USC Trojans won their first game of the season against San Jose State, and true freshman wide receiver Trent Mosley showed out.
The USC Trojans won their first game of the season on Saturday. Lincoln Riley and company piled up the points on offense, and had some good moments defensively, and some bad. But nothing may have stopped us more than trusting freshman wide receiver Trent Mosley.
Coming into this season, most people knew the Trojans would have to rely on some younger wide receivers to produce. They lost Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane to the draft, which is nearly 2,000 receiving yards of production from last year. Not to mention that’s 15 touchdowns missing as well.
The receiver room was a big question coming into the season. And, it may still be, but against San Jose State they found something. True freshman Trent Mosley showed up and showed out. And, he did what no true freshman has since 2018.
According to Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports, USC’s Trent Mosley is the first P4 freshman with 7+ receptions, 100+ yards and a TD in his debut since Purdue’s Rondale Moore in 2018. Moore was one of the great collegiate wide receivers of this decade. That’s amazing company for Mosley to be in. Now, as we already said, it is San Jose State so let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Regardless, USC may have found something in Mosley, the former four-star wide receiver.
Mosley may be what many thought Boobie Feaster would be for USC
Mosley, a four-star true freshman, isn’t the guy most people thought would emerge for the Trojans. He’s not even the highest-rated wide receiver that USC brought in this offseason. “Boobie” Feaster was a four-star receiver but a guy many thought should be a five. And, he nearly was.
The Trojans loved Feaster, and while he did play on Saturday, finishing with one catch for eight yards, he wasn’t anything like what Mosley was. Many thought Feaster was going to have a shot to be a legit dude in his freshman year. Maybe that still happens. But, right now it feels like Mosley is WR1.
