Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan can’t stop. The first-year executive is collecting rookie contracts as if they were Infinity Stones.

The Dolphins drafted 13 players throughout the course of the 2026 NFL Draft. That’s one short of an NFL (and franchise) record. The team secured a 14th rookie in the form of undrafted rookie fullback DJ Herman. A 15th rookie was added when the NFL cut their rosters to 53 players — Miami claimed former Broncos 5th-round draft choice TE Justin Joly. And now? A 16th rookie has been secured. 17, if you include UDFA EDGE Rodney McGraw, who is on the practice squad.

Miami Dolphins claim former Penn State running back Kaytron Allen off waivers from Washington

Allen, who was the 187th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, was a Second-Team All-American for the Penn State Nittany Lions in 2025. Allen posted a career-best 15 rushing touchdowns and 1,303 yards in his final season in college before making the leap. He’s generally regarded as a powerful, physical runner. He weighed in at 217 pounds at the 2026 NFL Combine. And with that size, he showcased impressive power and contact balance throughout his college career.

But the Dolphins got an extra scouting look at Allen this summer, after he’d joined the Washington Commanders. Allen and the Commanders rubbed elbows with the Dolphins throughout the course of a joint practice and preseason game this August.

In the preseason game, Allen rushed for 85 yards and a score — so he obviously left an impression on Sullivan at some point along the way. His path to playing time is crowded in Miami. Although it’s not as crowded as it would have been before the injury to De’Von Achane. And, more importantly, Allen’s addition sure doesn’t seem like a great endorsement for practice squad backs Jarquez Hunter and Carlos Washington Jr. Allen jumps both as the Dolphins running back being carried on the 53-man roster.
