Amy Adams Strunk and Burke Nihill can’t keep hiding behind Robert Saleh and Cam Ward after Titans hit new low against Texans

Tennessee hasn’t started a season this poorly since 2009, and Sunday’s mess raised questions that reach well past anything that happened between the lines.

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans found a new floor Sunday. A Houston Texans team that arrived in Nashville at 0-4 left with a 26-3 win.

I don’t think the Texans fixed all of their problems overnight, either. They simply ran into the worst football team I have covered in 11 seasons.

Tennessee is now 0-5 under coach Robert Saleh, a worse start than either of recent Titans survivor Brian Callahan’s two seasons.

Callahan’s teams started 1-3 in 2024 and 1-4 in 2025. The second of those runs got him fired after Week 6. The Titans haven’t opened a season this poorly since 2009. They have lost 11 straight divisional games.

2025 No. 1 overall pick quarterback Cam Ward has been in the league for more than a calendar year without beating an AFC South opponent.

The football itself was ugly enough. Offensive tackle Dan Moore missed blocking assignments. Ward wasn’t good enough to elevate the situation. The offense had no rhythm, even after the last couple of weeks offered a glimpse of something between Ward and Carnell Tate. Houston’s offense roasted the secondary.

The bigger problem sits above all of that.

Burke Nihill has to answer for the Titans franchise crashout

Fans and media have pointed fingers at everyone over the last few years.

Former coaches Brian Callahan and Mike Vrabel, former general managers Jon Robinson and Ran Carthon, former quarterbacks Will Levis and Ryan Tannehill and so many more all took their lumps. Most carry some level of culpability. All of them are gone.

The common thread is team president Burke Nihill, the person Strunk has entrusted to run her organization.

Nihill loves the idea of the “New Titans.” From new logos, new uniforms, multiple new coaches and staffers to even changing the franchise’s theme from Greek mythology to “Titans of Industry.” The results haven’t changed.

When it’s time to talk about his professional baby, the NEW Nissan Stadium, Nihill is readily available. When it comes to taking accountability the way that every other party involved in this dumpster fire has (besides ownership whom Nihill is tasked with speaking on behalf of), he is nowhere to be found.

Nihill was, unsurprisingly, not available for comment.

I’m not saying an in-season firing of the team president fixes this.

The Titans are in a years long hole made deeper by Nihill’s organizational failures.

Coach Robert Saleh and Ward face reporters after every loss and carry 10 times the accountability their team president does. Nihill has to get out there and field questions on behalf of the fans when he is asking them to pay for a new stadium set to open in 2027.
