Scary NFC East injury update adds layer of mystery to Cowboys vs. Eagles matchup in Week 7
Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is out for Week 6 as the team evaluates how to move forward with scary injury.
No NFC East team won in Week 5, which naturally led to a lot of mockery around the NFL. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that it will be a tight race to win the division.
As of right now, the favored teams to win it are the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, who will play their first of two games later in October as they’ll play on Week 7’s Monday Night Football.
And the latest injury update puts the availability of one of the starting quarterbacks in serious doubt.
Jalen Hurts ruled out of Week 6 due to blood clot
According to a statement released by the Eagles on Thursday, Hurts won’t play against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday due to a “superficial blood clot.”
The team identified Hurts’ blood clot prior to the Eagles’ loss in London last Sunday yet cleared him to play as doctors “concluded that activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could safely play.”. But a recent development is forcing the Eagles to shut him down until they decide on an approach.
“On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small blood clot,” the Eagles said in a statement. “Jalen will be out for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority.”
Week 7 status in question
Though the Eagles have plenty of time before their Oct. 26 matchup versus the Cowboys, it’s clear they’re being cautious about Hurts’ situation. It is an uncommon situation in the NFL and one they’re not taking lightly.
Obviously, Hurts’ wellbeing is the priority.
But in a fast-paced NFL, it’s impossible not to look at the potential impact of every injury—scary or not. As of right now, Kalshi puts the Cowboys chances of winning the division at 41% and the Eagles’ at 24%. Philly’s numbers drastically dropped compared to Thursday morning, when they were at over 30%.
The Cowboys’ two games against the Eagles will largely dictate their chances of winning the NFC East. If Hurts misses Game 1, it will have an enormous impact on the game. For now, it’s Tanner McKee for Philly this Sunday.
We will be closely monitoring Hurts’ health over the next couple of weeks.
