Kentucky Wildcats just got some bad news that they’re going to try to push through a day before playing the Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners are ready for their SEC matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats, who could be with a beaten-up CJ Baxter.
The Oklahoma Sooners are now firmly back in the College Football Playoff conversation. If they win out, they could definitely get in, but it starts with this game. You have to win this game before you can win out the rest.
So, they need to win this game. And it’s the first SEC regular-season night game since 2024. A lot is riding on this game, and the Sooners just got good news while the Wildcats got bad news.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, the Kentucky Wildcats have designated running back CJ Baxter as a game-time decision for Saturday night’s game in Norman. Nakos also said the Wildcats are optimistic their starting running back will be ready.
So it sounds like he’s pushing through an injury for this game. That could work in the Sooners’ favor. They’ll be playing against a beaten-up, battered RB room, just like Kentucky is against OU, which has only a few guys healthy.
Oklahoma Sooners know about CJ Baxter all too well
The Sooners knew about Baxter before he was a Wildcat. Baxter played for the Texas Longhorns, so he’s no stranger to OU. They know what he can do. He’s coming off a 123-yard, two-touchdown performance in the win over LSU, including a huge 77-yarder. He’ll still play, but his status suggests he could be a step or two slower. Or he could play worse than usual because the injury is hampering him.
At Texas, he played against OU only once, in 2023. He only had a few rushing yards in that game. The other times, he missed due to injury. But still, Oklahoma has probably watched plenty of tape of him at Texas over the last few years. They know what kind of player he is, and what Kentucky could be missing if he doesn’t go Saturday.
