Vols defensive coordinator Jim Knowles in the locker room after Tennessee’s win over Alabama is the best thing you’ll see all weekend
The Tennessee Volunteers’ defense was dominant in a 26-10 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday in Knoxville.
I don’t think there’s a more popular guy in East Tennessee right now than Vols defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
Knowles’ defense was absolutely dominant on Saturday in Tennessee’s 26-10 win over Alabama.
The Vols shut out Alabama in the second half while only giving up 201 total yards (a good chunk of that came on Alabama’s final drive when Tennessee was playing soft coverage).
Knowles, who is in his first season as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator, is known for his stoic demeanor.
But he let loose in the locker room while celebrating the win over the Crimson Tide.
“He’s a Philly guy — tough and demanding,” said Vols head coach Josh Heupel after the game when asked about Knowles. “But [the players] love him and they believe in him. And he cuts up and has some fun with them, too. He’s got a great way of connecting with people. I’ve seen that from the very beginning in his own way of doing it. Elite job by him tonight.”
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Heupel’s decision to hire Knowles was possibly the best move of the college football offseason (along with the decision to hire strength coach Derek Owings).
