Jalon Daniels sends the Buccaneers a strong message that everyone needs to hear, but I’m not sure it will change much

Jalon Daniels has the right mindset to last a long time in the NFL and his latest message to the Buccaneers is one the entire team needs to listen to.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jalon Daniels still has plenty of work to do when it comes to becoming a viable starting quarterback in the NFL, but the one area of his game that cannot be questioned is his maturity and overall mindset.

Daniels is easily one of the most optimistic guys to be on the Buccaneers in a long time, and that’s not an indictment on the franchise by any means. He just has a rare form of positivity. It’s contagious, and it’s something every player should have in his back pocket when it comes to how he approaches the game.

Daniels was his true self after Tampa Bay’s tough loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6, and he sent the team a strong message afterward.

Jalon Daniels isn’t backing down after the Steelers loss

Daniels was asked how much a deflating loss like the one to Pittsburgh can impact the team’s overall headspace/hope heading into the rest of the season and he didn’t mince words during his response.

“It doesn’t get crushed,” Daniels told reporters. “We truly understand that this is the NFL – you’re going to win, you’re going to lose. This is a game of football. At the end of the day, whatever team executes the most is going to go out there and win the football game. … So, this doesn’t affect our confidence, it doesn’t affect our energy.

“We’re going to come in tomorrow with the same energy and confidence, because at the end of the day, we know how it feels to win a football game. Obviously, we lost today, but we can’t sit here and let wins and losses dictate how we go about our day-to-day basis, because if we do, we already lost. We’re going to come in with the same energy, same excitement, and get ready to go out there and play division football.”

The entire Buccaneers team needs to adopt Daniels’ mindset and not allow this loss to sink in. However, it’s a lot easier said than done, no matter how optimistic the Bucs are or how much hope they still have left in the tank for the 2026 season.

The Buccaneers have been stuck in a rut for almost a full year

That’s because this is a team that is 3-12 over its last 15 games and just can’t figure out a way out of the funk it’s in. Whether it’s penalties, not finishing, poor fundamentals, bad coaching decisions, bad execution, or simply bad luck, the Buccaneers are in a rut, and they’ve been in one for almost a full calendar year now.

I’m not entirely sure Daniels’ words will be enough to pull Tampa Bay out of the slump and he might not get the opportunity to put any action behind his words because Baker Mayfield could return in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.

Regardless, the Buccaneers have to keep pushing and finding ways to win, or else there’s going to be a lot more of the same we’ve seen so far this year. And as we all know, if that continues, big changes are ahead after the 2026 season, which I’m sure nobody in that locker room wants to see.
