New York Jets are already getting incredible returns from 2026 NFL Draft class as remarkable rookie statistic puts them in rare company
The Jets’ three first-round picks are already making a major impact, and a remarkable statistic involving two young playmakers shows just how promising this draft class could be.
Are the New York Jets finally hitting on their rookie first-round picks? So far, the answer is a pretty firm yes.
Only three rookies in the NFL have a 100-yard receiving game this season, and two of them play for the Jets. Jets wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and tight end Kenyon Sadiq have both cleared the century mark. The only other rookie on that list is Titans wide receiver Carnell Tate.
That company matters. Tate was the first receiver taken in the 2026 NFL draft, going 4th overall out of Ohio State. Sadiq went in the middle of the first round out of Oregon as the first tight end selected. Cooper came off the board late in the first round out of Indiana.
That is the kind of early production New York needed from this draft class.
Omar Cooper Jr. already looks like a difference maker
Cooper’s rookie year did not start smoothly. He suffered an ankle sprain in Week 1 against the Titans on a big play he made, and that injury has limited how much the Jets have seen from him.
Now, look at what he did once he finally got a full game under his belt. Cooper went for six catches, 102 yards, and a touchdown against the Patriots on Sunday. He has played only one full game as a Jet, and he made it count.
He really should have had two touchdowns. A second score came back on offensive pass interference against Tim Patrick, which was a questionable call. Even without it, Cooper put up 100-plus yards and found the end zone.
He is a clear difference maker. There was some debate about where the receivers in this class stacked up, but the Jets appear to have nailed this pick. At least that’s how it looks right now, and the early signs are hard to argue with.
Kenyon Sadiq is the best tight end in the draft
I never had any doubt that the New York Jets landed the best tight end in this rookie class. Sadiq has backed that up.
His big day came in Week 3 against the Lions in Detroit, when he put up more than 100 yards and a touchdown. That is a statement game for a rookie tight end, especially on the road against a quality opponent.
He has been banged up, too. Sadiq suffered a concussion in Cleveland, but he was still able to suit up against the Patriots. That toughness is encouraging for a young player at a physical position.
Injuries have been a theme for both of these rookies. Still, when they have been on the field, they have produced.
David Bailey and a first round that is paying off
Let’s not forget the defensive side of the ball. Edge rusher David Bailey, the 2nd overall pick, has been a beast for the Jets. He hasn’t just been good for New York, either. Bailey has been one of the more disruptive defenders across the league.
So the scorecard reads like this. Bailey is wrecking games up front. Sadiq has already delivered a 100-yard performance. Cooper has a 100-yard game in his only full appearance. That is three first-round picks, and all three are contributing right away.
The Jets have not given their fans a ton to feel good about in recent years. A lot of that has come back to draft picks that never developed. This class looks different.
The verdict on Mougey and Glenn’s first draft haul
GM Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn swung big in the first round this year, and the returns are already there. New York has a rookie pass rusher who can anchor the defense and two rookie pass catchers who can take over a game for the Jets.
I think this group will be the foundation of whatever the Jets build next. If Cooper and Sadiq can stay healthy, New York has two young weapons who are going to be just fine and a defensive star in Bailey to go with them.
For Jets fans, that is something real to hang your hat on. And the best news, they get three first-round picks to use in next year’s draft as well.
