Predicting every Power 4 conference champion at midseason, including a Big Ten rematch call Ohio State fans won’t like

College football has gone off the rails by midseason, and the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, and SEC title races now hinge on a scare, a revenge angle, and one rematch.

College football is absolutely insane right now, so who is going to win each conference championship?

With the season at its midway point, the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, and SEC title races have all taken a few hits. The Miami Hurricanes survived a scare, the Georgia Bulldogs lost as the No. 1 team, and the Big Ten picture already has a rematch brewing.

Here’s where I land on all four Power 4 conference champions if I had to predict it today.

Miami runs the table in the ACC

Miami had a real scare against the Florida State Seminoles, and I still think the Hurricanes end up losing to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. But that’s a non-conference game. Inside the ACC, I don’t think Miami takes a loss this season. I’d be shocked if it did.

Miami makes it to the ACC Championship and wins it. I just don’t see another ACC program that can stack up against the Hurricanes and find a way to beat them. If somebody does, I’ll be absolutely floored.

BYU is the Big 12 pick, and it isn’t close

For the Big 12, I’m going with the BYU Cougars. How can you not?

Running back LJ Martin will eventually come back, and by the time BYU is playing in the Big 12 Championship, he should be part of this offense again. Add in a revenge angle, plus quarterback Bear Bachmeier playing the way he is, and this is the easiest call on the board.

And you may say, Tegan, what about the rest of the conference? The Houston Cougars are a huge threat, and I’m not dismissing them. The Texas Tech Red Raiders still have that defense, too. But I have no trust in that Texas Tech offense. None. A great defense can keep you in a title game, but it can’t win one by itself.

Indiana wins a highly anticipated Big Ten rematch

For the Big Ten, I’m going with the Indiana Hoosiers. I think Indiana gets back to the Big Ten Championship, and if it’s a rematch with the Ohio State Buckeyes, I think the Hoosiers win it.

Even as somebody who picked Ohio State, I can call a spade a spade. Indiana was making mistakes in that first meeting that it typically does not make. Clean that up, and it’s a different game.

If there’s a rematch, I’m trusting the better coach. And honestly, I think we get a better performance from Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover the second time around.

Then there’s the Ohio State quarterback situation. I have no clue if Julian Sayin is going to be fully healthy for a game like that. He’s projected to only miss a couple of weeks, but with a throwing arm injury, who knows how long that can linger? That uncertainty alone tilts this toward Indiana for me.

Georgia is still the team to beat in the SEC

For the SEC, I’m still picking Georgia. Yes, the same Georgia team that just lost to the Auburn Tigers while sitting at No. 1. I get it.

Here’s what stands out to me. Georgia losing as the top team in the country was shocking, and yet I’m seeing no one panic. A lot of people are just shrugging it off. That’s college football, you’re going to drop a game like that eventually, especially with the parity in the sport. Not a single person is questioning whether Georgia is a national title contender.

That is a credit to Kirby Smart and what this roster is. A loss like that would send most programs into a full-blown crisis. In Athens, it barely registered.

I may just be picking the chalky option at this point, but you have to go with Georgia. Who else in the SEC looks like a more polished team than the Bulldogs? I don’t see one.

My conference title board at the midseason mark

Miami in the ACC. BYU in the Big 12. Indiana in the Big Ten. Georgia in the SEC.

The Big Ten pick is the one that’s going to get me the most heat, especially from Ohio State fans. Indiana beat itself as much as the Buckeyes beat it in the first meeting, and a cleaner Hoosiers team with the better coach is the pick I’d make every time in a rematch. So I turn the question to you: who would you swap out, and why?
