The Tennessee Titans released defensive tackle Jordan Elliott on Tuesday following an incident at the team’s training facility Thursday. The Titans put out the following statement on the matter:

“On Thursday, October 15th, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott. Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter.”

The Jordan Elliott incident at the Titans facility

Per sources to A to Z Sports, Elliott had grown frustrated with a Titans teammate on the practice field Thursday, Oct 15.

On its own, that didn’t raise any red flags for those in attendance. Practice fights happen across the NFL every week, especially between offensive and defensive linemen who spend every rep in each other’s face.

However, that frustration carried over into the locker room after practice. Sources say Elliott was seen storming out of the locker room upset.

According to multiple sources, Elliott then went to the players’ parking garage next to the facility, to retrieve a firearm from his vehicle.

The situation was de-escalated before there was any altercation involving the firearm.

The Metro Nashville Police Department told A to Z Sports via phone call Tuesday afternoon that no reports had been filed, nor had any contact been made by the team in connection with the incident.

Elliott’s NFL career before Tennessee

Elliott appeared in the first five games of the season for Tennessee. He signed a two-year, $8 million free-agent deal with the Titans in March 2026 after following coach Robert Saleh from San Francisco to Nashville. The idea was simple. Elliott already knew the defense, so he could help the rest of the room adjust to Saleh’s new scheme.

That plan is over five games into the season due to an altercation that followed Thursday’s practice.

The former Missouri Tiger is in his seventh NFL season. The Cleveland Browns selected him in the third round, 88th overall, in the 2020 NFL Draft.

He spent four years in Cleveland before spending the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Last season under Saleh, Elliott started 16 games for the 49ers and played well as a run-stopping defensive tackle.

That on-field fit is exactly why Tennessee brought him in. When a new head coach installs a new defense, having players who already speak the language matters. Elliott was supposed to be one of those bridge pieces in Saleh’s first year in Nashville.

What comes next for the Titans’ defensive line

The Titans now have to replace Elliott’s snaps in the middle of the season. That’s a real football problem, but it’s the smaller story here.

Tennessee played DT Nazir Stackhouse for the most part in Elliott’s place against the Colts, and he performed well. His performance now means a good deal more for this team the remainder of the season with Elliott gone for good.
