Bengals receive the Lamar Jackson news they’ve been waiting for all week ahead of their matchup at Ravens
The Cincinnati Bengals will enter Sunday knowing exactly which quarterback they will face against the Baltimore Ravens.
The Cincinnati Bengals will enter Sunday knowing exactly which quarterback they will face against the Baltimore Ravens.
Ravens starting quarterback Lamar Jackson has been declared out with his high ankle sprain. Jackson was listed as questionable on Baltimore’s final injury report Friday. He was a limited participant in all three of the team’s practices.
This will be Jackson’s third consecutive missed game due to his ankle injury.
Tyler Huntley to start against Cincinnati
Starting in place for Jackson is Tyler Huntley once more. The Ravens are 1-1 the last two weeks with their backup QB under center. Huntley has completed 70.6% of his passes, has thrown for 429 yards (6.0 yards per attempt), and has three touchdowns through the air with zero interceptions.
The Bengals have played against Huntley before. Cincinnati defeated him in its AFC Wild Card victory during the 2022-23 postseason, 24-17. It was Huntley’s fumble at the goal line late in the game that created Sam Hubbard’s now iconic 99-yard scoop-and-score to ultimately win the game.
Huntley has played relatively well as a second-stringer, but the difference between him and Jackson is quite notable. Jackson is averaging over four more yards per attempt this year and is an obvious threat as a ball carrier in comparison. He also took the majority of first-team reps during Friday’s practice.
Baltimore wanted to give Jackson a real shot at returning this week. He’s 11-2 as a starter against the Bengals. His ankle just isn’t quite ready to be trusted for an entire game yet.
Cincinnati finding this out now is also a bit advantageous. Jackson could’ve been declared out last minute Sunday morning, but now the Bengals know hours ahead of time it will be Huntley taking the field instead.
Kickoff at M&T Bank Stadium is at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
