6 winners and 2 losers from Browns’ Week 7 win over the Titans that keeps them atop the AFC North
A look at the stock up/stock down report coming out of the Cleveland Browns’ Week 7 win over the Tennessee Titans.
The Cleveland Browns keep finding ways to put together game game-winning drives. Cleveland fell behind 14-0 early against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7, then found their footing from there to grab another win, 27-24.
Deshaun Watson did it again, leading the Browns on their fifth game-winning drive of the season. The Browns remain at the top of the AFC North seven games into the season, a spot almost no one had them in before the year started. Slow starts and big finishes keep adding up for this team.
Here are the winners and losers for the Browns from the win over the Titans.
Browns winners from the Week 7 win over the Titans
WR KC Concepcion: The rookie wide receiver had a career day with eight catches for 129 yards. He also added three rushes for 23 yards. The Browns got Concepcion in space often, and he looks like the true Zay Flowers type of weapon for offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Most of his damage came in the first half, but it was still a breakout performance for the first-round pick.
RB Quinshon Judkins: Judkins had his best day of the season with 17 rushes for 96 yards and two touchdowns. He broke off a 30-yard run, the longest of the year for him. It finally looked like the Judkins fans saw early last season, the version that created so much excitement about what he could become.
CB Denzel Ward: Tennessee threw at Ward a few times, and it rarely went its way. Ward finished with an interception, giving him two this season. He’s playing like an All-Pro for this defense.
RB Dylan Sampson: Sampson played in his first game since the Week 1 loss to the Jaguars, and his return was a welcome sight. He had six carries for 45 yards and did damage in the passing game, as he usually does, with three catches for 34 yards. Sampson gave the Browns a nice change of pace from Judkins.
CB Tyson Campbell: Campbell gave up a couple of slants early on, but he settled in after that. He came up with a big forced fumble and helped the Browns defense hold Titans QB Cam Ward to under 200 passing yards. That will do every time.
Todd Monken: Monken gave Titans head coach, Robert Saleh, who calls the defense for Tennessee, all he could handle. He kept drawing up plays the Titans had no answer for. This was the best offensive performance of the season for Cleveland, with 27 points and 491 total yards. The Browns got it done through the air and on the ground.
Browns losers from the Week 7 win over the Titans
Penalty issues: The Browns continue to hurt themselves with penalties. Cleveland had eight penalties for 48 yards, and the majority came from the offensive line. If the Browns don’t shoot themselves in the foot multiple times, this game probably doesn’t come down to needing a game-winning drive. They have to clean that up if they want to be the best version of themselves this season.
Run defense: Cleveland allowed 141 rushing yards to Tennessee, and RB Tony Pollard did most of the work with 129 yards on 25 carries. The defensive tackles weren’t able to plug holes at all. It was a bad day for the run defense, and the Browns were lucky to get by with that kind of run-stopping performance.
Winning from behind has become this team’s identity. The comeback against the Titans marked another game where the Browns didn’t panic after a rough start, and the offense finally put together a complete day overall. Don’t sleep on what the young playmakers did in this one either. Concepcion, Judkins, and Sampson gave Monken a real group to work with, as did tight end Harold Fannin Jr.
Still, the penalties are a problem that can’t keep showing up week after week. Cleveland has found a way to cover those mistakes so far, but better teams will make them pay. The Browns have matched their win total from a year ago, and no one seen that coming in Week 7.
