Bears sign LB Tremaine Edmunds to a four-year deal
The Chicago Bears capped off a tremendous day in free agency by signing one of the most coveted players in the class.
The Chicago Bears sent shockwaves around the league by signing ILB Tremaine Edmunds to a four-year deal on Monday.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first with the news.
To put this signing into the proper perspective, let’s take a look at the details surrounding the deal.
Base Salary
2023: $2.4 million
2024: $14.9 million
2025: $14.9 million
2026: $13.9 million
Edmunds, 24, is due a $9.75 million signing bonus and will rack up $45 million in total guarantees.
The two-time Pro Bowler has starred in the middle of the Buffalo Bills’ defense for his first five seasons in the NFL. A tackling machine, Edmunds has led the Bills in tackles in four of the last five seasons.
Edmunds also brings versatility to the Bears linebacker corps. He is an above average defender against the pass and, as displayed in Buffalo, is capable of leading an elite defensive unit.
By signing Edmunds to go along with Edwards, the Bears now have one of the best pairings at linebacker in the league. Chicago comes out as the clear-cut winner in the first day of the NFL’s free agency period.
