Alabama’s spring scrimmage just proved that a freshman wide receiver could be the next Ryan Coleman-Williams in Tuscaloosa
If A-Day proved anything, it’s that Alabama may have its next Ryan Coleman Williams on campus already, and he could be even bigger.
The Alabama Crimson Tide held its annual A-Day scrimmage on Saturday, and while the quarterbacks stole the show, it was the players catching the passes that added excitement to the annual tradition inside of Bryant-Denny Stadium at Nick Saban Field.
Of course, new look Ryan Coleman-Williams was the headliner, donning the number one, and with a new set of signal callers, he looked like the Coleman-Williams from 2024. But it was a freshman wide receiver who was turning heads in Tuscaloosa, even leading Coleman-Williams to give him a nickname that proves how dynamic he can be in Crimson and White.
Ryan Coleman-Williams calls freshman WR Cederian Morgan ‘Gulf of Mexico’
“That’s my dog, man,” Coleman-Williams said of freshman WR Cederian Morgan via BOL on YouTube. “He’s really stacking days. Early on, still learning and stuff because he’s only been here 24 seconds.”
“So, just to see him continue to stack days, stack days — we call him ‘the Gulf of Mexico.’ You throw it in there, and he’s going to catch it. You’ve got plenty of space. Really, I’m just super proud of my guy, and we got two more practices, and we’re just ready to continue to work.”
Why Alabama Crimson Tide fans should be excited about Cederian Morgan
Morgan made his first public appearance with the Crimson Tide, averaging nearky 25 yards per catch after recording three catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. The 6-4, 223-pound WR from Alexander City aligned in different parts of the field, and you could see him use his NFL body type to wall off smaller defenders, yet show the juice to get vertical.
With Coleman-Williams, there was a little trepidation when it came to projecting his freshman season. He was 170 pounds, soaking wet, and the WR corps around him boasted some impressive names and transfers.
For Morgan, he walked onto campus day one looking like an NFL wide receiver, and his physical skillset and mentality will only continue to grow as the summer months go on. Which is exactly why it’s not a stretch to say that Morgan could do what Williams did in 2024, if not even more.
