A lot of people believe that Alabama post-Nick Saban is not the same place. That, despite the return to the SEC Championship and the first College Football Playoff win of the Kalen DeBoer era, the fear factor, or the intimidation that Alabama had over its opponents, is gone.

Well, Ryan Williams has a message for the people who believe that.

Ryan Williams says Alabama will wake up college football

“We don’t care if they’re asleep or awake. We’re going to make them stand up,” Coleman-Williams told On3 when asked about the narrative that people are sleeping on Alabama post-Saban.

For whatever reason, it’s not only the media and other programs who seem to believe that Alabama is no longer the same program; it’s some of the Crimson Tide’s former players.

Both James Smith and Earl Little Jr. have made headlines for taking shots at Alabama. Smith said that the practices at Ohio State have a higher level of intensity than what he experienced at Alabama, and Earl Little Jr., who played under Nick Saban and hasn’t been at the program in nearly three years, said that Alabama doesn’t compete the way the Buckeyes do.

“When I was there, you know, we were working hard. Here’s the same, but it’s the intensity,” Smith said via Eleven Warriors on YouTube. “It’s almost like everything’s so much faster. Everything’s so intentional, everything is already laid out. They brought in a new coach to Alabama. So they were still trying to learn and stuff, but here is already stable.”

“It kind of gave me that feeling from back when I visited as a freshman, and visited with Saban, because here they ain’t gonna lie. [I] came here, they didn’t lie to me, not one time, nothing. Coach Larry Jones told me it’s gonna be hard, and I appreciate honesty.”

“At Alabama, we didn’t compete in the weight room how we do here. With everything you’re doing at Ohio State, you’re gonna compete, and you have to be at your best every single day,” Little Jr. told Chase Brown of 11 Warriors.

It’s all motivation for Alabama

Regardless, the offseason is full of narratives, opinions, and bulletin board material. All that matters is what happens when September rolls around, and for Alabama, that’s where the players’ focus should lie.
