2026 Four-Star Edge Rusher and Florida Gators Commit K.J. Ford

One of the top commits in Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier‘s 2026 recruiting class is four-star edge rusher KJ Ford out of Duncanville, Texas. He committed to the Gators on July 11 and is their fifth-highest commitment in the class as the 125th-ranked overall commitment, and 17th-ranked edge rusher in the 2026 class.

Despite his commitment to the Gators, Ford is still taking visits, including one this Saturday afternoon. He will be in Norman, Oklahoma, with the Oklahoma Sooners contingent for their game against the Michigan Wolverines, per Sooners Scoop’s Josh McCuistion.

Florida Gators commit KJ Ford visiting Oklahoma

This is a tough one for the Gators, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that Ford has a foot out the door. Recruits often visit other programs during their senior year of high school. What’s interesting is that Oklahoma wasn’t in Ford’s final three, but the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas A&M Aggies were.

The other element that’s at play is the bond Ford has with elite edge rusher Jake Kruel, who is committed to the Sooners. Kruel immediately went to social media, trying to get Ford to join him at Oklahoma.

This isn’t too much of a surprise; recruits do this all the time. Where things get really interesting is that Ford was doing this for quite a while to get Kruel, who grew up a Gators fan, to commit to Florida.

It begs the question: could these two end up being a package deal? The Gators never stopped recruiting Kruel and Ford’s visit to Oklahoma, paired with their consistent recruitment of each other, could change things. However, Ford is one of 84 (yes, 84) recruits visiting Norman this weekend. How much will they make him feel like a priority with that many in town?

This visit could mean nothing, but it’s worth monitoring until both players sign their letter of intent, especially because recruiting is a wild ride.
