Florida Gators HC Jon Sumrall continues to make a major impression on top overall recruit Jalen Brewster
The Florida Gators are on a heater with recruiting under new head coach Jon Sumrall, and it keeps getting better. They are now viewed as serious contenders for the No. 1 recruit in DL Jalen Brewster.
The Florida Gators are coming off of a major recruiting heater last week.
Ahead of the spring game, head coach Jon Sumrall landed commitments from five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller and four-star quarterback Davin Davidson. Both players immediately started trying to recruit for the Gators, including Hiller doing so within hours of his commitment.
Sumrall continued that right after the spring game by landing four-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain, but the biggest recruit on the Gators’ radar could make waves.
Florida Gators remain serious contenders for top recruit DT Jalen Brewster
Friday night brought news that five-star and No. 1 overall recruit Jalen Brewster was visiting during the spring game. It was the second visit he’s made since spring practice began at the beginning of March, and it’s put the Gators in position to land him. Rivals’ Chad Simmons believes that the Gators are the biggest competition for the Texas Tech Red Raiders commit.
“You know there’s some interest; they go back. What does that mean? It’s that much more, I think interest there from Brewster. A lot of us feel like Florida probably is the biggest competition right now for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, but I would not be surprised that they get an official visit at Florida from Brewster. Now, the communication is strong, led by Gerald Chapman, the D-line coach there in Gainesville, Sumrall like [with] Fountain, is involved in this recruitment as well. I just think he sees an opportunity to kind of go in there help change the program back around.”

Hiller’s commitment was the first time they had landed a five-star offensive lineman since Martez Ivey in 2015, and they haven’t had a No. 1 overall recruit since Ronald Powell in 2010. Brewster would solidify a defensive line group that has a lot of talented pieces. If they are able to get it done, it would continue the narrative that Sumrall has changed the culture entirely in Gainesville.
