Florida Gators secure huge commitment that top assistant coach compared directly to Percy Harvin
It’s a huge recruiting decision for the Florida Gators
The Florida Gators took a major step forward when it comes to recruiting with the news that five-star quarterback Elijah Haven is projected to commit to the Gators. Unfortunately for head coach Billy Napier, not all news has been good.
On Monday night, four-star wide receiver Davian Groce out of Frisco, Texas, made his commitment known, and it was exactly what Napier wanted to hear.
On Monday night, four-star wide receiver Davian Groce out of Frisco, Texas, made his commitment known, and it wasn’t the news Napier wanted to hear.
Davian Groce commits to Florida
Groce officially made his decision, as he chose the Gators over both the Oklahoma Sooners and Baylor Bears.
It’s been trending Oklahoma’s way for some time, as Groce’s mom and her entire family are from Oklahoma. However, the Gators were able to lure him away from staying close to home, which was arguably the biggest sticking point to landing him.
It’s been trending that way for some time. Groce’s mom is an Oklahoma fan with her entire family from the state. The Sooners put in a ton of work to land Groce, and it paid off in a major way with his commitment.
Now, the Gators also put in a ton of work to try and land Groce. Their wide receiver class going into this commitment is still flush with talent. Four-star Marquez Daniel and four-star Justin Williams are the two commits that are currently in the Gators’ 2026 recruiting class, and Groce would have fit in very well with their skill sets.
One of the main reasons why the Gators wanted Groce so badly is due to wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales. He coached Percy Harvin at Florida, and believed that Groce could be the next guy to fill that role for the Gators.
It’s a tough loss for the Gators, who are still without a top 100 recruit in the 2026 recruiting class. Their top commit is currently four-star edge rusher JaReylan McCoy at 108th overall.
It’s a tremendous win for the Gators, as Groce now becomes the top-ranked recruit in the 2026 recruiting class as the 60th-ranked recruit, along with the number six wide receiver and number seven recruit in the state of Texas.
A massive win/blow for the Gators.
