Mario Cristobal deals a painful blow to Oregon as Miami Hurricanes’ strong offseason continues
Mario got over on his old program in a big way on Sunday afternoon.
It hasn’t been a great week for the Miami Hurricanes on the recruiting front.
The Canes missed out on two notable five-star standouts on Friday. Ft. Lauderdale (St. Thomas Aquinas) OT Mark Matthews picked Texas A&M over the Hurricanes. And the Canes missed out when Chicago (St. Patrick) DL David Folorunsho picked Notre Dame.
But for the second time this month, Mario Cristobal went into an elite program’s class and plucked a big fish out of their class. And this time, he did it to his old school.
Dothan, AL CB Ai’King Hall has flipped his commitment from Oregon to Miami, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.
The four-star King checks in as the No. 39 overall player, No. 7 cornerback, and No. 1 player in the state of Alabama per Rivals. He’s the No. 74 player, No. 11 corner, and No. 1 player in Alabama according to Rivals’ industry rankings across all major outlets. He held offers from
King’s pledge to Oregon didn’t last long, as he committed while on a visit to Eugene back in early April. King apparently visited Coral Gables over the weekend and liked what he heard enough to pull the trigger on the Canes.
King’s commitment follows Cristobal landing five-star Long Beach, CA CB Donte Wright earlier this month. Wright flipped his commitment from Georgia to Miami. Now, the Hurricanes have two of the top 11 CB recruits in the 2027 class according to industry rankings.
It’s a nice consolation prize for a less-than-perfect week, and it’s another example of why no commitment is totally safe if Cristobal and the Hurricanes are pushing for a flip.
