Notre Dame predicted to solidify yet another elite running back duo with more massive recruiting news expected very soon
Could Notre Dame be receiving another massive addition to their 2027 recruiting class soon?
Notre Dame football received some great news this past week when four-star 2027 Waco (Texas) Midway running back Lathan Whisenton committed to the Fighting Irish over Florida and Texas Tech, among many others. Whisenton was the launching point for what’s expected to be a hectic few weeks for the Fighting Irish on the recruiting trail.
Last weekend was a massive recruiting event for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame staff. Whisenton wasn’t the only talented 2027 running back who left impressed by the Irish. Notre Dame also made a massive move with Springfield (Mass.) Central star Isaiah Rogers.
So much so that Steve Wiltfong from On3 and Rivals logged an expert prediction for Rogers to land with the Fighting Irish. That prediction appears well timed by Wiltfong with the Massachusetts standout setting a commitment date for this Monday. It’s safe to say that Notre Dame is considered to be the big leader to land Rogers this week.
Rogers will be selected between the Irish, Georgia, Penn State, and Indiana.
If Notre Dame does land Rogers, it would be a massive addition for the program, putting together back-to-back outstanding running back duos. Rogers’ game is eerily similar to former Oklahoma and Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Mixon. With a ton of growth potential, a gliding style, and strong hands out of the backfield, Rogers has some of the best upside of any running back in the 2027 class.
Isaiah Rogers’ recruiting background
Rogers is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, he currently ranks as the No. 237 overall player, the No. 15 running back, and the No. 2 player from the state of Massachusetts for the 2027 recruiting class. He has continued to rise up the recruiting rankings over the course of the offseason, and there’s no reason to believe that rise can’t continue. ESPN is the highest on Rogers, sitting as the No. 146 overall player in the country.
Like Rogers’ recruiting rankings, he has continued to see his offer list grow in recent months. Some of the top programs that have offered Rogers include the Fighting Irish, Michigan, Florida, Penn State, Nebraska, Florida State, Indiana, Boston College, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Mississippi State, Syracuse, and Rutgers, among others. Even more high-level programs continue to do their homework on Rogers.
As a junior in 2025, Rogers put together a tremendous season for Springfield Central. In 10 games, Rogers managed to rush for 986 yards and 14 touchdowns, including an impressive average of 7.8 yards per carry. The 5-11, 205-pound playmaker also hauled in 32 receptions for 373 yards and three more scores. Rogers’ combination of explosiveness, size, and versatility would be a tremendous addition to any major program of interest.
