Buckeye Nation is going to love the honest admission that Purdue HC Barry Odom made regarding Ohio State
Purdue head coach Barry Odom made some comments Ohio State fans should love.
The Ohio State Buckeyes were scoreless in the first quarter against the Purdue Boilermakers, but that didn’t hold them back from earning a 34-10 road win. Purdue is a scrappy team that lost by just one possession to the Michigan Wolverines a week earlier, and they had the Buckeyes down 3-0 early — the first time Ohio State had trailed since their Big Ten opener against the Washington Huskies.
Purdue has caused Ohio State problems in the past, even if not recently. This time, the Buckeyes limited the Boilermakers to just 186 total yards, while racking up 473 yards of offense themselves. Ohio State scored 24 points in the second quarter to seize control of the game and never looked back. Afterward, Purdue’s first-year head coach, Barry Odom, didn’t hold back his praise for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State is the standard that other teams are chasing
“Give a lot of credit to Ohio State and coach Day. I think they’ve got a terrific team,” Odom said after the game. “They’re built the right way in every area, every level. The defense — they’re talented, they’re well-coached, they don’t make mistakes. That shows up.
“From recruiting, from development, from calling the game… right now, they are setting the standard. I give them a lot of credit for how they’re built and how their kids go play.”
Ohio State is getting it done in every way — on the field and off — and others are taking notice. As the No. 1 team in the country, the Buckeyes are in a great spot with an unblemished 9-0 record. They’re thriving on the recruiting trail and have a strong track record of landing their top targets from the transfer portal. It’s hard to argue that Ryan Day hasn’t elevated the program even further.
The Buckeyes may be 9-0, but all their goals are still in front of them, and they’ve accomplished nothing yet. Ohio State hasn’t beaten Michigan in its last four tries, and that remains its first major hurdle at the end of November.
From there, the Buckeyes are on track to face the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship before hoping to defend their National Championship crown. Next up for the Buckeyes is a home night game against UCLA.
