Let’s just say Dave Portnoy and the Ohio State Buckeyes aren’t on the best of terms.

Ok, no need to tiptoe around it, they hate each other.

And with Portnoy making his debut on Fox Sports’ Big Noon Kickoff, he came out of the gate swinging at Ryan Day and OSU.

Dave Portnoy Calls out Ryan Day, Ohio State

“These people can boo me all they want,” said Portnoy on the Big Noon Kickoff set. “What happens if you lose to Michigan again this year? [Ryan Day] could be out. There’s a reason I’m not allowed in The Shoe today. Because he’s soft and Michigan has broken him.”

“Ohio State has lost four straight games to Michigan after dominating the series for much of the last couple of decades. Losing to the Wolverines has been an unfamiliar feeling for many Ohio State fans, and as a result, Ryan Day has received the brunt of that frustration. Still, a 1-4 record against Michigan is unacceptable for Day, especially considering Urban Meyer never lost to them. . .

” . . .While Day owns an impressive 70-10 overall record, those four defeats stand out more than anything else. The good news for Ohio State is that losing to Michigan doesn’t carry quite the same playoff consequences it once did, thanks to the expanded College Football Playoff format—as we saw last year when the Buckeyes went on to win it all. . .

” . . .Winning a national championship has bought Day plenty of time in Columbus, and another loss to Michigan wouldn’t put him on the hot seat. Still, the expectation at Ohio State is to reestablish dominance over the Wolverines, and that breakthrough needs to come sooner rather than later. Until then, fans will continue to apply pressure—and voices like Dave Portnoy only help drive that.

Brandon Little, A to Z Sports Ohio State

The whole reason Portnoy and Ohio State are at odds is because of his staunch support of the Michigan Wolverines. As Brandon mentioned, maybe the matchup no longer carries the must-win nature it once did in terms of winning a championship, but that doesn’t mean the teams and fans view it that way.

If the rivalry wasn’t as bitter as ever, Portnoy would be walking into The Shoe with the rest of his Fox Sports crew. Instead, he’s gonna have to find a couch or a bar.
