The Ohio State Buckeyes are back in action on Saturday with a chance to move to 10-0 against the visiting UCLA Bruins. It will be a night game in The Shoe and another key recruiting evening for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State will be hosting UCLA for the first time since it joined the Big Ten on Saturday. While the Bruins may be just a three-win team, the Buckeyes can’t afford a letdown of any sort, and there shouldn’t be, given the focus they’ve shown so far this season. The Buckeyes have some familiarity with UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava from his time with the Tennessee Volunteers.

Let’s get into how we see this one going.

Ohio State-UCLA game notes

  • Nico Iamaleava lost to the Buckeyes 42-17 while he was at Tennessee during the College Football Playoff last season.
  • UCLA’s best win of the season was against James Franklin and Penn State by a score of 42-37.
  • Ohio State is 1-1 against UCLA all-time, and the last time was a 13-6 loss in 2001.

Ohio State 38, UCLA 3

Ohio State had its most offensive plays in a game last week against Purdue, and the Buckeyes could be starting to turn it up a bit on that side of the football. Julian Sayin is right there at the top of the Heisman race, and I expect the Buckeyes to air it out in this game.

Carnell Tate should be back from a minor injury, and I expect him to have a big game against the Bruins. The Buckeyes do need to continue working at running the ball and improving that part of the offense. This is another game they can improve on before they travel to Michigan later this month. UCLA gets on the board once, and the Buckeyes cover. – Brandon Little, A to Z Sports Cleveland, Ohio State

Ohio State 52, UCLA 3

The Buckeyes get another look at Nico Iamaleava 11 months after beating him to a pulp in Ohio Stadium in the College Football Playoff. The former Tennessee quarterback has played relatively decently considering how bad his surrounding cast is, but this Buckeyes defense will be teeing off on him all day.

Ohio State dragged its feet a bit last week, and now is the time for Ryan Day to start sharpening the team’s knife in preparation for The Game in a few weeks. Watch for Ohio State to be more aggressive passing early, before getting the young guys onto the field and working on the ground attack. – Ian Valentino, A to Z Sports College Football.
