The Ohio State Buckeyes are as good as any program in the country when it comes to developing playmakers. Head coach Ryan Day and offensive coordinator Brian Hartline have created a pipeline to the NFL that no one can match. This run goes back beyond even Day’s time with the program, including one of Urban Meyer’s favorite weapons, Curtis Samuel.
On Monday, the Buckeyes added a two-way threat who has drawn comparisons to the former rusher and receiver. Legend Bay, a four-star athlete from Forney, Texas, flipped from Tennessee to join the Buckeyes. The 6-foot, 185-pounder is one of the fastest football players in high school ranks.
Here’s everything you need to know about Bay and how Day might use him.
Ohio State flips Legend Bay from Tennessee to bolster playmaker unit
Bay is the sixth player the Buckeyes have flipped from another school in the last month. He most recently visited Ohio State on Nov. 1, and he hadn’t been on an official visit since Tennessee in mid-June. Buckeyes running backs coach Carlos Locklyn was able to seal the deal with Bay right before National Signing Day.
“OSU just made so much sense for me” Bey told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong. “I want the best development, the best coaching and the best atmosphere. I have a great relationship with the coaches and I trust their plan for me. I’m ready to compete with the best and help lead my team to a National Championship.”
Boasting a 10.23 100-meter time, Bey is truly an explosive presence. Day hasn’t utilized someone quite like Samuel in recent years, though Garrett Wilson received some varied touches after Samuel left. Samuel totaled 97 carries for 771 yards and eight touchdowns, plus 74 receptions for 865 yards and seven touchdowns in 2016.
Could we see Bey be part of a new role in the future? We can’t wait to see how the playmaker evolves when he touches down in Columbus.
