Ohio State HC Ryan Day reveals injury for freshman RB Legend Bey, as well as his status for Saturday’s spring game
The Buckeyes have an exciting freshman in Legend Bey, but his spring has been up and down overall. Ryan Day revealed what injury Bey is battling on Monday.
The spring game for Ohio State is always a time you get to see the up-and-coming players ahead of the season. Some of those players are showing what they’re going to do once the season comes around, others are showing what can come down the road. One freshman catching attention this spring is RB Legend Bey.
Bey has had an up-and-down spring, including missing time with injury. Missing time during the spring is tough for freshmen because it’s their first ramp-up toward college football. Ohio State HC Ryan Day elaborated on the injury on Monday.
Legend Bey’s status for Saturday’s Ohio State sprint game is up in the air
“I don’t know if he’ll be able to be ready by Saturday,” Day said to start the week. “There’s been a hamstring injury that’s been bothering him for a couple weeks now.”
He’s not quite there ready to go yet, but our guys are working hard to get him back on the field real quick.”
Day said at the end of his media availability he doubts Bey will be out there on Saturday. Bey is listed as a running back but Ohio State is likely to use him as a wide receiver as well and overall, a gadget player they like to get in space. Ohio State is being careful with the hamstring injury, as they should be at this time of the year. The Texas native has already shown what he can do this spring at 5-foot-10 and 177 pounds.
“You know, his talent is his explosiveness, his quickness, he has vision. So, you know, that’s exciting,” Day stated. “You can see that on his film. But then once, once he’s out here, you can see that as well.”
Bey is definitely a player fans would want to see out there on Saturday, and it’s unfortunate they probably won’t. It should be a fun spring game with the majority of the time being tackle football. Coach Day said he expects there to be one or two series where they go thud, but overall they’ll be playing tackle.
With Bo Jackson and Isaiah West already limited this spring, the opportunity has been there for other running backs to step up and showcase their talent. Bey dealing with a hamstring injury isn’t ideal, but it’s good news that it doesn’t sound too serious.
