The Ohio State Buckeyes’ last time out was a 13-10 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship where the offense just wasn’t up to par.

Ohio State scored just 10 points days after Brian Hartline opted to take his first head coaching job. That game against Indiana was also one where the Buckeyes didn’t have their top playmakers quite healthy and it showed. Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate being back up to speed is a major win for the Buckeyes heading into their College Football Playoff game against Miami

Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith is aiming to put on a show against Miami

“Well, he’s, you know … he’ll be wired this week. That’s for sure, man. He’s going to be fired up,” Ryan Day said of Smith. “I mean, these guys? You know, they know a lot of the players on the other team, and we got a lot of guys on their team that we recruited. So, it’s going to be great.”

Smith comes from the Miami area as the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2024 and the Hurricanes recruited him hard. Ohio State knew from Day 1 that their star wideout was going to be the focal point of their offense, and he helped lead them to a national championship last season. Smith is looking forward to going and playing against the Hurricanes, as well as plenty of current Miami players that he’s grown up playing against.

“I’m very excited to play the guys from back home,” Smith said earlier in the week. “It’s like a second home for me. I’m from there. I had a good relationship with all the coaches (at Miami) a lot of the players on the team. A lot of people I played with in high school.”

Smith has 1,086 receiving yards in 12 games this season a year after having 1,315 receiving yards in 16 games as a true freshman. While the game will be played in Arlington, Texas, Smith getting to go up against his hometown team is a cool story on its own. Ohio State is no doubt going to play through Smith at this stage in the College Football Playoff, and he’ll have a chance to put up some real numbers.
