Oklahoma Sooners are in danger of losing an elite in-state recruit to a program that had a terrible 2025 season
The Oklahoma Sooners had the opportunity to land four of the top five players in Oklahoma, but that won’t happen.
Oklahoma’s No. 1 recruiting class in 2027 could improve further by landing elite four-star linebacker Case Alexander, an in-state prospect currently ranked in the top five in the state.
Despite the in-state advantage, Oklahoma faces strong competition from Penn State for Alexander, who has significant interest due to family ties—his older brother plays there. Alexander is weighing offers from both schools, but it appears that Penn State may have the Sooners beaten.
“If it were a perfect world, I would probably decide before June,” Alexander told Parker Thune of Sooner Scoop. “That might not happen; I might end up taking two OV’s. I’ll just kind of see; I need to sit down, pray about it, talk to my family, and figure it out in the next few weeks.”
Alexander’s older brother, Cooper, is a redshirt sophomore tight end at Penn State. Their father, Stephen, played tight end at Oklahoma in the 1990s before a decade-long NFL career. While both sides have family connections, Penn State has the prediction on Rivals. They are the team with a 90-plus-percent chance of landing Alexander.
Case Alexander would be the perfect kind of Brent Venables linebacker, too
The 6’3, 215-pound linebacker from Washington, Oklahoma, visits the Sooners June 12-14 and Penn State June 19-21. Oklahoma gets the first impression for this round. OU has had five visits with Alexander, while Penn State has had two. Visiting Norman can be a game-changer.
2027 LB Case Alexander’s visits
- 5 visits with the Oklahoma Sooners
- 4 visits with the Iowa State Cyclones
- 2 visits with the Penn State Nittany Lions
- 1 visit with the Kansas State Wildcats
- 1 visit with the Texas Tech Red Raiders
“It’s been awesome getting to know Coach Venables and Coach Dreiling,” said Alexander. “I really feel like they’ve made me a priority, which I’ve appreciated. As I said, I feel like I’ve seen everything and know the staff decently well, so it’s just gonna come down to me making that decision… I don’t feel like there’s anything I haven’t seen or need to see. It’s just gonna come down to what’s most important to me.”
Oklahoma has two four-star linebackers, Cooper Witten and Taven Epps, in its 2027 class. Adding Alexander would elevate this group into one of the best in the class.
