The Oklahoma Sooners hosted the Sooners Elite Camp this week, where some of the best high school players in the country, from several classes, came to campus to work with the staff. Or, in this year’s case, work with Taylor Wein and David Stone as well.

This gives the Sooners a chance to look at some really good players that they’re very interested in. And, it gives them a chance to get some work in with collegiate coaches, SEC coaches at that. The Sooners also get to see how these guys react and work with other top guys around the country, as well as players they probably don’t even know.

This week, scholarship offers were handed out across the board. One of the guys garnering the most attention is wide receiver Carson LaCombe, from San Antonio, Texas. According to nearly every beat writer and reporter who was in attendance, LaCombe was unguardable and one of the very best players at camp. And, he had to be, considering he left town with an offer.

Carson LaCombe could be the savvy route runner every SEC team needs

LaCombe is 6’2, 185, and has the skill set every team needs. He is a good route runner, but most importantly, he’s just good at getting open. And when he does get open and catch the ball, he makes plays. The Sooners love players like that, especially in this Ben Arbuckle offense.

When you first turn on LaCombe’s tape, he shows you right away that he isn’t limited to just one playstyle. He’s a multi-receiver who can do a few different things. His first play is a bubble screen that he tapes 60 yards downfield.

Right now, Texas A&M seems to be the leader for LaCombe, which makes sense since they are relatively close to him. However, that doesn’t mean this week didn’t make LaCombe a guy with OU on his mind right now.
