Grayson (Ga.) four-star linebacker Anthony Davis Jr. is set to announce his commitment August 2. And, don’t look now, but the Ole Miss Rebels are trending for yet another blue chip commitment.
Davis, the No. 298 overall prospect in the 2026 class, per Rivals Industry Ranking, has been pegged by a few national recruiting experts to pick the Rebels this weekend. Rivals’ Adam Gorney and Chad Simmons chime in here:
“When Davis took a visit to Ole Miss early in the offseason, the four-star linebacker felt like a top priority and that he could come to Oxford and play early,” Gorney said. “As Georgia cooled on the in-state four-star linebacker, Davis was looking for a place that really wanted him and that looks like it will be Ole Miss. Michigan can never be counted out but I think Davis stays in the South.”
“Michigan has come on strong in this race over the last few months but Ole Miss is still the team to beat based on intel. Michigan is not giving up and there is still dialogue between the two but the confidence in Oxford looks to be a little higher a couple of days out,” Simmons said. “The Rebels have been consistent since early in the year, each trip to Ole Miss has been a hit for Davis and his family and the SEC school is trending late.”
Ole Miss just received a commitment from Anthony Davis Jr.’s teammate, Nascar McCoy.
The two form quite the duo for Grayson’s defense – heading into the 2025 season. The 6-foot-2, 200 pound prospect was an Under Armour All-American last season after he finished his junior season with 105 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, five pass break-ups, three sacks, and an interception.
Ole Miss’ defensive coordinator Pete Golding has been a huge reason for Davis’ keen interest in the Rebels.
“Coach Golding’s been my guy,” Davis told Rivals earlier this summer. “He’s been recruiting me for a minute so just building that bond with him has been great. Taking football knowledge from him has been great. He’s one of the greats to do it. It was really great to sit down in meetings and him go over football and talk football, it was a fun experience.
“They’re multiple, they blitz a lot, they have different type of schemes. That D-line helps out and it’s a good thing for me because the D-line will always be very, very good. Playing with a good D-line and the D-line doing stunts just keeps you free to make plays.”
Ole Miss currently has the No. 19 overall class, per the 2026 Industry Ranking football Team Recruiting Rankings on Rivals. It’s 9th in the Southeastern Conference, but boasts six four-star commits. The top-rated prospect in the commit column is four-star Tavares (Fla.) linebacker Izayiah Williams.
