The Oregon Ducks appear to be in good shape in the battle for a 2027 four-star defensive recruit.
Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney said this week that Oregon has a "big early edge" for 2027 four-star defensive lineman Kasi Currie.
"Emerging as one of the top 2027 defensive tackles nationally, Oregon has a big early edge for the Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon standout as he’s loved his trips to Eugene and will be back on June 1," wrote Gorney.
Gorney pointed out that Texas A&M, Tennessee, and USC are also in the mix for Currie, before noting that Oregon is "definitely the team to beat" for the talented defensive lineman.
Currie, 6-foot-5/315 lbs from Chatsworth, CA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 13 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 18 player in the state of California. He's also rated as the No. 156 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.
Scouting report via 247Sports: Currie is a talented tackle and projects as a national recruit. He’s a big, physical space eater at a solid 6-4, 290 pounds. He’s a disruptive player, often double teamed but still able to make plays. He shows off a consistent motor and does a nice job disengaging and making plays outside the tackle box. He’s a capable offensive lineman as well but we like his upside as a true interior defensive lineman and by the time he’s a senior, Currie should have his choice of just about any school in the country.
"Oregon was my best experience at a college visit-wise," said Currie to 247Sports recently. "The coaches, the players, they all took me in like I was already a part of the team…I was up there for the spring game and a visit. It felt great to be up there — it felt like home."
The Trojans are probably the biggest threat to Oregon in this recruiting battle due to USC's close proximity (an hour) to Currie's hometown.
Dan Lanning attempts Hail Mary by offering two-sport star QB prospect who has MLB future in sights
The Oregon Ducks didn't take long to move on from prized recruits Jared Curtis and Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele. Ducks head coach Dan Lanning is getting used to not winning close recruiting battles just based on NIL, and his ability to create elite relationships is being tested as the rest of college football has caught up with […]
