Aggies overcome feisty Florida Gators in no small part to true freshman who Mike Elko can’t wait to get more involved on offense
Texas A&M enjoyed a strong breakout performance from true freshman Jamarion Morrow, who opens up their offense for the future
The Texas A&M Aggies are on a roll in 2025, finishing off another physical, tough SEC opponent in dominant fashion by beating the Florida Gators 34-17. The Aggies are undefeated so far as they head to take on bitter rival Arkansas next week in Fayetteville. If they want to stay undefeated moving forward, it seems like they will be relying on a true freshman who enjoyed his breakout moment against Florida this weekend to help them get there.
True freshman running back Jamarion Morrow has flashed his playmaking potential in back-to-back games, but he scored his first career touchdown against the Gators, making this one to remember. He continues to make plays for the Aggies, and it’s no surprise that Mike Elko highlighted him postgame.
With Le’Veon Moss getting injured in A&M’s win over Florida, Morrow could be in line for more work as the season goes on, especially if Mike Elko’s words postgame ring true. After the game, Elko was asked about Morrow’s first career touchdown this week. “Really excited [for him]..He is an extremely competitive kid. We are going to be giving him the ball in the fourth quarter, where we have to get first downs.”
Morrow Adds New Element to Aggies’ Offense
The Aggies can run the ball, there’s no doubt about that. Between quarterback Marcell Reed and their stable of running backs led by Rueben Owens II and Le’Veon Moss, A&M can rip off yards on the ground with little problem. However, they aren’t tremendously explosive on the ground, sitting at right around 10th percentile in rushing explosiveness this season.
That’s where Morrow can come in and contribute for this offense. The former two-way star in high school is a twitchy, shifty rusher who can chew up ground in a hurry, and he showed that difference-making speed on his first touchdown this week.
Not only does he add that element on the ground, but his threat as a receiver opens up the Aggies’ offense as well. So much of their passing game revolves their dynamic duo of KC Concepcion and Mario Craver. Now, the Aggies should feel confident in getting Morrow involved in the passing game as well, giving defensive coordinators even more to have to figure out moving forward.
Texas A&M hasn’t been perfect on offense this season, but the talent level that Mike Elko and company have brought into College Station has been on full display this season, and they keep improving every single week. Morrow is just the latest breakout for the Aggies, but he could be a monumental breakout player for the future of the program.
