The Texas A&M Aggies are 8-0 for the first time in 1992. Not only that, but they also just pulled off their first win at LSU’s “Death Valley” since 1994. The Aggies are making history happen in this tremendous 2025 season, and they are doing so on the back of their quarterback, Marcel Reed.

Reed accounted for 310 total yards of offense and four touchdowns in A&M’s blowout victory over the LSU Tigers. Even after a pair of interceptions early on in the game, Reed was able to respond and silence the LSU crowd with some electric plays through the air and on the ground. Reed is the first Aggie QB with a pair of rushing and passing touchdowns in an SEC road game since Johnny Manziel in 2012.

Now on the cusp of leading the Aggies to their first bid in the College Football Playoffs, Reed is looking to become A&M’s first Heisman finalist since Johnny Manziel himself all those years ago. With the way the Aggies are playing, it’s finally time to take Reed seriously as a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender.

Marcel Reed is an offensive juggernaut

Try as they might, no defense so far has been able to figure out how to stop or even slow down Marcel Reed all season long. His lowest passing total was 180 yards on Mississippi State three weeks ago, but he still accounted for three touchdowns as the Aggies bulldozed the bulldogs 31-9.

Reed is responsible for 142 points scored this season, putting him second in the country just behind Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby in scoring. He’s been the driving force behind A&M’s dominant 8-0 run, and the offense revolves entirely around his threat as a dual-threat quarterback. A&M has road wins over Notre Dame and LSU, and the Aggies are averaging 45 points a game ON THE ROAD.

While it’s premature to make any comparisons, he is very similar in many ways to Kyler Murray as both a passer and runner. Just when teams think they have him bottled up, he has a knack for escaping and making a big play happen either through the air or on the ground.

On a stout LSU defense, Reed led seven scoring drives on the road and has responded time and time again whenever the Aggies need a big play. He hasn’t been perfect, of course, and he has some work to do as a passer, but his talent and ability are outstanding, and he is the perfect playmaker for how the Aggies run their offense.

For a Texas A&M program that has been desperate for an answer under center and have been longing for a legitimate playmaker at quarterback for years, Reed has taken that next step in his game in 2025 and it’s paid off for the Aggies with their undefeated start. Reed has the team on the verge of a potentially undefeated season and a spot in the SEC Championship game and a berth in the College Football Playoff.

If that doesn’t deserve Heisman Trophy consideration, I don’t know what else would.
