Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver and top NFL draft prospect Isaiah Bond has his sights set on making history at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
While speaking to the media on Friday, Bond stated that he’s planning to break the 40-yard dash record time of 4.21 seconds set by former Longhorn and current Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy in 2024.
“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure," Bond said. "I anticipate running 4.20, or possibly if I’m feeling great, I might run 4.1.”
It would be an incredible feat for Bond should he break the record. Former Washington Huskies WR and NFL veteran John Ross held the top time of 4.22 for seven years before Worthy eclipsed it.
It's not out of the question that the speedy Bond could break Worthy's record. Although they are both former Longhorns, Bond and Worthy were never teammates as Bond transferred to Texans from Alabama after the 2023 season. Worthy went on to be selected by the Chiefs 28th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Bond will hope to have a rookie year in the NFL similar to that of Worthy's. In 2024 with Kansas City Worthy caught 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns, also tacking on 104 rushing yards and three TDs. Worthy had a whopping 157 receiving yards and two TDs during Super Bowl LIX.
During his three-year collegian career, Bond has amassed 1,428 receiving yards, 101 rushing yards, and 11 total TDs. He took a bit of a step back with the Longhorns in yardage and TD production in 2024, but set a career-high 15.9 yards per catch average.
Our A to Z Sports draft guru Travis May's latest three round mock draft has Bond being selected in the second round. However, if Bond really can break Worthy's record, his draft stock could shoot up into the first round like Worthy's did last year. Bond and the rest of the WR prospects will work out on Saturday, March 1.
